Nicolaus Copernicus University is the first university in Poland to received the HR Excellence in Research logo awarded by the European Commission. It is awarded to research centres that meet European standards for hiring scientists.
The Human Resources Excellence in Research logo is one of the European Commission activities in the framework of the Human Resources Strategy for Researchers, aimed at increasing the attractiveness of researchers' working conditions in the European Union. By awarding the logo, EC promotes the institutions that provide the best working and development conditions for researchers.
Nicolaus Copernicus University received the prestigious logo on 26 November. "We are the first university in Poland and 7th institution in the country, which has received permission to use the HR Excellence in Research logo" - the university Centre for Promotion and Information reported in a release.
Polish institutions that have already been awarded the logo are: the Institute of Physics PAS, the Institute of Physical Chemistry PAS, the Institute of Plant Genetics PAS, International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology, the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology PAS and the Foundation for Polish Science.
Permission to use the HR Excellence in Research logo obliges an entity to implement the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. The implementation of these principles helps to create a friendly working environment for scientific and transparent recruitment rules.
"To obtain the HR Excellence in Research logo, Nicolaus Copernicus University had to perform an internal analysis, which allowed to assess the extent to which its operation is consistent with the Charter and Code" - reads the release sent by the university. Based on the conclusions from the analysis, the university prepared HR strategy and action plan to help identify key weaknesses, and description of the specific actions that would remedy them.
The HR Excellence in Research logo, however, is not granted for an indefinite period. Every two years, the institutions which use it are evaluated by the European Commission. If irregularities are found, the right to use the logo may be revoked.
