16.11.2015 Students of the university of Gdansk awarded in an international information technology competition

Students of the University of Gdańsk took third place in the international AIS Student Chapter Competition. They designed SafeWatch, a mobile application which allows users to discreetly call for help in an emergency.

AIS Student Chapter Competition is an international competition of teams of students - specialists from around the world, mostly from American universities. This year, the competition finals were held at the University of Alabama.

Young programmers from the University of Gdańsk were the only European team in the finals of the competition, and they won third place. They were beaten only by two teams from the reputable Philadelphia Temple University.

SafeWatch is a mobile app that allows the user to call for help using hand gestures in case of an emergency. A few taps on the watch is enough to call the police. The system recognizes certain movements, and then transmits to the authorities information on the identity of the victim, his or her situation and exact time of the call for help. The solution is at the stage of a working prototype. Young programmers intend to bring it to the market in cooperation with the Gdańsk Science and Technology Park.
