Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń

Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń (Polish: Uniwersytet Mikołaja Kopernika w Toruniu; UMK) is located in Toruń, Poland. It was named after Nicolaus Copernicus who was born in this town in 1473.

The Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń (NCU) is one of the largest universities in Poland, currently comprising 17 faculties (including 3 medical faculties at Collegium Medicum UMK in Bydgoszcz). It provides graduate and postgraduate courses for almost 30 000 students (including 1300 foreign students), offering education in over 80 fields of study, 100 specialisations and 50 postgraduate courses. The university employs 4300 staff on both Toruń and Bydgoszcz campuses, over half of whom are academic teachers.

NCU has a state-of-the-art research infrastructure including the National Laboratory of Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics (FAMO), the Center for Quantum Optics and the Interdisciplinary Center for Modern Technologies. The Centre for Astronomy in Piwnice near Toruń houses a unique 32-meter radio telescope. Spitsbergen (in the Arctic Sea) is home to NCU Polar Station. NCU researchers can boast a number of spectacular successes which include, e.g. the design and construction of an Optical Coherence Tomography instrument, an ultra-modern device for medical eye examinations.

The Nicolaus Copernicus University is ranked as one of the five best universities in Poland and it is also the reason why QS World University Ranking has placed NCU in the top 4% of universities in the world.

Polish language courses: The Centre of Polish Language and Culture for Foreigners offers one-year courses and summer courses of the Polish language designed for foreigners. The classes are taught by professional Polish teachers who have great experience in teaching Polish as a foreign language in multi-national and multi-cultural groups.

Foreign students can be enrolled for studies taught in Polish if they fulfilled following requirements:
• Complete a one-year intensive Polish language course or
• Submit a Polish language certificate issued by State Commission for the Certification of Proficiency in Polish as a Foreign Language or
• receive a statement confirming that Polish language skills are sufficient to study at university.

Centre for Medical Education in English (in Bydgoszcz)

The university has recently enriched its offer by new programs in English - Medicine, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Laboratory Medicine and is currently providing education to over 170 students from such countries as Denmark, Italy, Sweden, Norway, UK, Ireland, Spain, Saudi Arabia, the USA, or Canada.
