Gdansk

Gdansk (Gdańsk) - is the sixth biggest Polish city (a population of 460.000 people), in a conurbation with the city of Gdynia, spa town of Sopot and suburban communities, which together form a metropolitan area called the Tricity, the total population reaching 1.4 million people.

Gdańsk is situated on the Baltic sea and is also Poland's principal seaport and an important industrial centre, including a shipbuilding centre, petrochemical & chemical, chemical, electronics, telecommunications, IT engineering, cosmetics and, pharmaceuticals companies. Gdańsk is home to such firms as: oil companies: Grupa Lotos, Petrobaltic, Orlen Morena, shipyards: Gdańsk shipyard and Stocznia Północna, but on the other hand many R&D and BPO centres- Intel, IBM, Ivona, Axciom, Fineos, Kainos, Jeppesen, Compuware, Playsoft, Comarch, EPAM systems, Schibsted,Thomson Reuters, Lufthansa Systems, Transcom Worlwide, KPMG, PWC, Deloitte, Regus, Bayer, ThyssenKrupp, Masterlease, First Data, ESO Audit, VB Leasing, OIE Support and many others.

In Gdańsk there are 14 higher schools of learning, including 3 universities: Gdańsk University, Gdańsk University of Technology and Gdańsk Medical University. There are 60.000 students in Gdańsk.

Gdańsk city is one of major tourist destinations in Poland. The main sights of the city are: the Old Town with such buildings as Artus' Court, Main Town Hall, Long Market, Golden Gate, Golden House, Green Gate, historical churches: St. Mary’s (the largest brick church in the world), St. Briget’s, St.Catherine’s, St. John’s, St. Nicholas' and, Oliwa Cathedral.
